In 1996 Jack Dougherty, who grew up in the orchards of Santa Clara valley and later had a career working as an executive in the computer industry, purchased the ranch. Today it has become an agricultural destination spot.
We offer estate and blended fresh olive oils as well as infused olive oils and dipping oils. We produce a limited number of bottles of our oils each year so be sure to get a bottle or a few while our supplies last.
Please visit the Bella Vista Ranch in Wimberley for a tour of our facilities, the orchards and tastings of our products. Please check the available hours before your visit because our hours change occasionally.
The Bella Vista Ranch is located in the hill country of Wimberley, Texas. Designed to reflect a traditional Italian family farm, the ranch is home to over 1,200 producing olive trees, seasonal fruit and vegetables, a frantoio (olive press), a winery, tasting room, and gift shop. Yes, we make 100% Texan olive oil!
First Texas Olive Oil Co., is headquartered at the Ranch. You can taste the grassy, peppery, and most importantly FRESH olive oil that we’ve been making here since 2001. Our olive oil is sold exclusively at our retail store on the Ranch or the “Shop” link on this website.
Bella Vista Cellars is a winery also located on the Ranch. We handcraft hill country varietals using locally grown grapes and offer a selection of seasonal fruit wines. Stop by to enjoy wines in our tasting room.
We will be closed on Thursdays during harvest.
Saturday tours start at 1pm, Sunday tours start at noon.
If you don’t immediately think of olive trees and vineyards when you think of Texas ranches, you’re certainly not alone. In fact, we’re fairly sure cattle and possibly oil fields would be the first things mentioned. But at The Bella Vista Ranch, we enjoy being extraordinary—and bringing you the finest fresh-pressed domestic extra virgin olive oil that we possibly can.
The seed of The Bella Vista Ranch, so to speak, was planted when Jack Dougherty bought it, dilapidated and untouched, to bring it back to life as a working ranch. At once, Jack realized the untapped potential of the Texas Hill Country; with weather and soil similar to the Mediterranean, Jack knew that The Bella Vista had a future in Texas olives. Thus, The First Texas Olive Oil Company was born from the fruits of that delicious dream.
Our 2013 Estate Grown Coratina Olive Oil was awarded a Gold Medal at the New York International Olive Oil Competition. It is the first Texan olive oil to ever win a medal in the event.
While The First Texas Olive Oil Company focuses on providing you with the finest fresh-pressed oils, The Bella Vista Ranch has become the home to much more elaborate agricultural undertakings. Having grown up in the Santa Clara valley, Jack Dougherty knew that, if he could, he would want more than just olives to press. As the rules in Texas have changed, so has Bella Vista Ranch’s crops—and we are so pleased to introduce Bella Vista Cellars to you! Our winery produces Italian varietals, in keeping with our Mediterranean theme.
Whatever we do, we do with passion and a commitment to fresh products grown right here in Texas. Come visit us at The Bella Vista Ranch to see (and taste) the difference.
